Kremlin hopes Venezuelan administration will prevent domestic political escalation
MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The Kremlin hopes there will be no escalation of tensions in Venezuela resulting from the pending delivery of humanitarian aid from the United States and that the legitimate authorities will prevent the situation from worsening, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press on Friday.
"Hopefully, the legitimate Venezuelan administration will do everything necessary to prevent further escalation of domestic political tensions," Peskov said.
Peskov had been asked whether the delivery of U.S. humanitarian aid due on February 23 might become "a culmination of the political crisis in the country" and whether Russia is expecting tensions to escalate in Venezuela in that context.
