SOCAR Polymer to make 150,000 t of polypropylene, up to 100,000 t of polyethylene in 2019

BAKU. Feb 22 (Interfax) - SOCAR Polymer, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), is planning to produce 80,000-100,000 tonnes of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in 2019, company head Farid Jafarov said.

"This year, we're planning to produce 80,000-100,000 tonnes of HDPE, 70% of which will be for export. Exports should begin in March of this year," Jafarov said.

The company is also planning to produce 140,000-150,000 tonnes of polypropylene in 2019, he said. "Since the polypropylene plant was launched, the company has exported about 25,000 tonnes of finished products. Our polypropylene is now exported to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Turkey. It has been proposed to begin exports to China, Europe, and India in the near future," Jafarov said.

SOCAR Polymer is also planning to sell 20,000-30,000 tonnes of HDPE and polypropylene in Azerbaijan, he said.

In the next one to two months, both polymer factories should reach full capacity, Jafarov said.
