Russian food watchdog bans imports of hogs, related products from 5 Japanese prefectures

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) has banned deliveries of hogs and related products from five Japanese prefectures as of February 26 in connection with cases of classical swine fever (CSF).

The ban extends to the Aichi, Gifu, Nagano, Osaka, and Shiga prefectures, according to the watchdog. It is forbidden to import live hogs, pork and products containing pork, hog embryos, hog sperm, used equipment housing, slaughtering, and butchering swine, and other related products.

Transporting live animals susceptible to CSF from the five prefectures through Russia has also been banned.
