Abnormally warm weather in Krasnoyarsk will not hamper winter Universiade, sports facilities have plenty of snow - governor

KRASNOYARSK. March 2 (Interfax) - The abnormally warm weather in Krasnoyarsk will not prevent it from holding the Universiade, the region's governor Alexander Uss told President Vladimir Putin during a working meeting on Saturday.

"Only two weeks ago temperature here dropped practically to minus 40 [degrees Celsius] and now it is abnormally warm in the entire history of weather observations," Uss said. On Saturday afternoon the local temperature rose to 1-2 degrees above zero.

When asked by Putin whether it would be possible to hold the competitions properly in such conditions and in case of temperature fluctuations, Uss reassured him that it will. He added that there was plenty of snow at the sports infrastructure.

Uss stressed that the Universiade was an historical event for the city. The preparatory stage is over, the operational one has begun, he said. "We hope everything goes in a fairly organized fashion," Uss said. "The spirits are high, primarily among Krasnoyarsk residents."
