Poroshenko proposes decentralization of govt be codified in Ukrainian constitution

KYIV. March 5 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called for codifying the decentralization of government in Ukraine in its constitution.

"We should unite in order to complete the legislative codification of decentralization, and this is not an easy task, because, I state: this requires constitutional amendments," Poroshenko said at a conference dealing with the regional development of the Dnipropetrovsk region on Tuesday.

Poroshenko also called for adopting a municipal code, saying: "Not just the adoption of a municipal code, which we also need, but amendments to the constitution, and to this end, we need to resolutely demonstrate our progress and consolidate the irreversibility of the changes."
