Moscow City Court to hear appeal against extended arrest of suspected spy Whelan on March 14

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court will hear the appeal against the extended arrest of suspected spy Paul Whelan, a citizen of the UK, Ireland, Canada, and the United States, next week.

"The Moscow City Court has scheduled the appeal hearing to begin at 11 a.m. Moscow time on March 14," Lefortovsky District Court press secretary Ksenia Pervovlasenko told Interfax on Wednesday.

According to Whelan's lawyer Vladimir Zherebenkov, the defense asked the Moscow City Court to overrule the resolution extending the arrest of their client and to either put Whelan under house arrest or to release him on bail, whose amount should be determined by the court.

On February 22, the Lefortovsky District Court in Moscow extended Whelan's arrest until May 28.
