Kremlin recommends addressing Shamanov for comments on his statements on Russian defense policy

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has recommended addressing Vladimir Shamanov, the head of the State Duma Defense and Security Committee, for comments on his statement regarding the participation by non-nuclear countries in so-called "joint nuclear missions" with the United States.

Peskov said the foundations of Russia's foreign and defense policy are determined by the Russian president.

"To be frank, I am not informed about Shamanov's statement, I simply don't know what he said. I recommend that you address Shamanov personally and ask him to comment on his statement," he said.

Peskov said, citing the Russian Constitution, that "the foreign policy and the foundations of defense policy are determined by the president of Russia."

Shamanov had said earlier at a briefing for military attaches accredited in Moscow that the involvement of non-nuclear states in practicing tactical nuclear strikes together with the United States will make them primary targets of Russia's counterstrikes.
