2019 Winter Universiade declared closed, FISU flag handed over to Lucerne mayor

KRASNOYARSK. March 12 (Interfax) -International University Sports Federation (FISU) President Oleg Matytsin has declared the 29th Winter Universiade closed, an Interfax on-the-scene correspondent reported.

"It is with sadness that I declare the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk closed," Matytsin said during the closing ceremony at the Platinum Arena in Krasnoyarsk. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev participated in the ceremony.

The FISU flag was handed over to Beat Zusli, mayor of Lucerne in Switzerland, where the 30th Universiade will take place.

The Krasnoyarsk Universiade took place on March 1-12. The Russian team dominated the medal table, winning the largest amount of both gold medals and medals on the whole. Following all competitions, Russian athletes have 112 medals: 41 gold, 39 silver, and 32 bronze.
