Russian, Norwegian defense officials discuss incident prevention measures, establishment of communication channel

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Chief of the Russian Defense Ministry's international military cooperation directorate Alexander Kshimovsky held negotiations with Norwegian Defense Ministry Security Policy Department Director-General Henning Vaglum in Oslo on Thursday.

"The agenda included matters related to military activities of the Russian and Norwegian Armed Forces in northern regions, bilateral military relations, including incident prevention measures, and prospects for setting up a communication channel between the two countries' defense agencies," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement seen by Interfax.

"The parties also discussed the situation in Syria," it said.

"An understanding was achieved on continuing contacts in this format to discuss relevant aspects of security and military relations between Russia and Norway," the ministry said.

The meeting passed "in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere," it said.
