Number of successful jailbreaks on decline in Russia, although attempts persist - FSIN

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Many Russian inmates hatch escape plans, but prison personnel remain vigilant and prevent their being fulfilled, according to first deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), Anatoly Rudy.

"Over the past 20 years, the number of jailbreaks has reduced from 47 to one. There have been no escapes from convoys. But although this is so, activity of planning escapes remains intensive and is not declining," Rudy said on Friday at a meeting of the agency board which summarized results of 2018.

"The number of jailbreaks in Russia is much smaller than in the big European countries, such as France, the UK, and Germany," he said.
