Kosachyov describes Canada as U.S.' de facto satellite over anti-Russian sanctions introduced by Ottawa
MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Introducing sanctions in reaction to Russia's actions in the Kerch Strait and in Crimea, Canada shows itself to be a de facto satellite of the United States, Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee head Konstantin Kosachyov said.
"Since I haven't visited Canada or Ukraine in at least five years, I can only suggest it is either persecuting me for political convictions or simply copying U.S. sanctions lists where I have had the honor to be present for one year now," Kosachyov said in commenting on sanctions introduced by Canada with regard to him and several other Russian individuals and companies.
"I am leaning towards the latter theory, and in this case Canada once again shows itself to be no more than a little brother of the United States and a country without real sovereignty," Kosachyov said.
Kosachyov also commented on Facebook on new sanctions introduced personally against him. "I have now the honor to be on Canadian sanctions lists as well. Democracy on the march. McCarthyism as it is," he wrote.
