New U.S. sanctions against Caracas lead to economic smothering of Venezuela - Russian deputy foreign minister
MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - The imposition by the United States of new sanctions against Venezuela is equal to the economic smothering of this country, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday.
"Additional sanctions against Venezuela have been imposed today. Washington continues actions that are equivalent to the economic smothering of the country," Ryabkov told Interfax following talks with U.S. officials on the situation in Venezuela in Rome.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury earlier included one private individual and one legal entity form Venezuela on the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) (so-called U.S. sanctions black list). The list now includes the state mining company Minerven (Compania general de mineria de Venezuela) and Andrian Antonio Perdomo Mata, who headed up the company in October.
