Turkmen leader pardons over 2,000 people on occasion of Nowruz
ASHGABAT. March 21 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has signed a decree to pardon more than 2,000 convicts on the occasion of the Spring Festival of Nowruz, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
The presidential decree pardons 2,028 Turkmen citizens who will soon be released from prisons, according to the report.
Nowruz, which is celebrated on March 21, marks the beginning of the New Year in the calendar of the Iranian and Turkic peoples.
