Sanctions imposed by Ukraine shows powerlessness of those who initiate them - Volodin

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - The introduction by Ukraine of the latest sanctions against Russian politicians has no logical explanation, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin told reporters on Thursday.

"These are meaningless decisions which are based on political populism. They point to the powerlessness of those who adopt them," he said.

"It is impossible to realize and comprehend" the reasons behind such sanctions, "because there is no point or logic to them," Volodin said.

He also stressed that the number of politicians targeted by sanctions "has increased to almost 1,000."

On Wednesday, Ukraine imposed sanctions on Volodin and a number of other Russian citizens.

According to Volodin, "the decisions Ukraine is adopting today are in no way regulated; by legislation, international laws, or by logic."
