Submarine Veliky Novgorod arrives in Sevastopol for 1st time

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - A welcome ceremony was held for the diesel-electric submarine Veliky Novgorod, which has returned from a Mediterranean deployment, in Sevastopol on Friday, the Black Sea fleet said in a statement on Friday.

"This is the submarine's first arrival in Sevastopol since her inclusion as part of the Black Sea Fleet," the statement said.

"While in the remote sea zone, the submariners executed tasks as part of the Navy's permanent task force in the Mediterranean Sea, where they fired submarine-launched Kalibr-PL cruise missiles against terrorists in the Syrian Arab Republic."

It was reported that after entering service in the Baltic in September 2017, the Veliky Novgorod submarine was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea as part of the Russian Navy's task force.
