Belarussian election chief expects Lukashenko to announce elections' sequence in 2 weeks

MINSK. April 2 (Interfax) - The sequence of election campaigns in Belarus is expected to be announced by President Alexander Lukashenko as part of his Annual Address, the country's Central Election Commission head Lidiya Yermoshina said.

"In regard to our [electoral process, which elections will be held this year and which in the next], nothing is yet known. I am waiting [for the president to announce this on April 19]. It's time this question was answered," Yermoshina told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday.

She admitted that she had no idea as to which elections will come first; presidential or parliamentary ones.

The presidential annual address is planned for April 19.

The current president's term of office expires in the summer of 2020, and that of the parliament in the fall of 2020. Yermoshina had said earlier that she considered December 1, 2019, to be the optimal date for one of the elections.

The CEC does not set the sequence of elections.
