CEC site repels over 600,000 cyberattacks in 2018

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - Over 600,000 attempts to hack the website of the Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) were made in 2018, Mikhail Popov, the head of the CEC federal information center, said.

"The security system registered over 600,000 attempts of hacking and attempts to explore the site's vulnerabilities last year," Popov said at a CEC meeting on Wednesday.

"The CEC portal repelled a total of 636,000 harmful impacts in 2018," he said.

The CEC uses a system of inert-agency electronic interaction and the transfer of data using flash cards, Popov said.

"Over 5,000 viruses were received from our colleagues in 2018. We detected them as they approached the system GAS Vybory, so everything functions well," Popov said.
