Peoples of Russia, Turkey will understand each other better through culture, tourism - Medinsky
MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - The Russian-Turkish cross-year of culture is favorably impacting the strengthening of the relations between the two countries, Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky said.
"Every event in the year of culture is aimed at realizing cultural heritage and using the tourist potential of our country. And finally the strengthening of simple human relations between our peoples," the minister said at the opening ceremony of the "cross-year" of culture and tourism of Russia and Turkey in Russia's State Academic Bolshoi Theater.
"Culture, tourism, communication, familiarization with history, language, and traditions of our peoples help people know year other better, they will understand each other better. Such events always influence communication between countries," he said.
Turkish Culture Minister Nabi Avc? , for his part, said that "bilateral relations between Russia and Turkey have a long history. The powerful political cooperation our leaders are demonstrating enables us to develop dynamically and advance in all spheres of cooperation," he said.
"I believe that declaring year 2019 a cross-year will become a very important and significant step in bringing our countries closer," the Turkish minister said.
