Putin stresses need for investigators to work strictly within law

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Investigative Committee must abide by the law in its work, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"When probing complicated cases, seeking compensation for inflicted damage, investigators should be guided solely by the law and strictly comply with the timeframes set by the Criminal Proceedings Code for investigation and inquiry procedures, and with the rights of all the parties involved," Putin said at a meeting with top officers and prosecutors on the occasion of their appointment to higher positions and rank assignments.

He also noted the Committee's important role in fighting corruption and crime in general.
