Thirty-seven terror cells busted in N. Caucasus in past year - Patrushev
MAKHACHKALA. April 19 (Interfax) - The activities of 37 terrorist cells were dismantled and 64 militants were neutralized in the North Caucasus over the past year, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said at a meeting in Makhachkala on Friday.
"As a result of these measures, 452 people involved in terrorist and extremist activities were detained. During special operations in the territory of the North Caucasus Federal District, 64 militants were neutralized and 285 gang members were detained and put on trial. The activities of 37 terrorist cells were dismantled," Patrushev said.
"Radical Islamic ideologists involved in destructive and subversive activities were exposed. Forty-four were prosecuted," he said.
