Azerbaijan, Turkey to hold Ataturk 2019 drill in Azerbaijan in early May

BAKU. April 22 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani-Turkish joint tactical exercise Ataturk 2019 will take place in Azerbaijan on May 1-3.

"The Mustafa Kemal Ataturk 2019 exercise will be held as part the Agreement on Military Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Live firing practice will be carried out during the exercise," the press service for the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The exercise's main objective is establishing interaction between the servicemen of the two countries. "Personnel, armored vehicles, artillery systems and mortar launchers, combat and transport helicopters of the armed forces, as well as anti-aircraft defense and anti-missile units of the two countries' armies, will be involved in the joint exercise," the statement said.

The Turkish troops have already arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the exercise, it said.
