Zelensky's advisor discusses energy independence with U.S. secretary
KYIV. May 4 (Interfax) - Oleksandr Danylyuk, an advisor of Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky and former finance minister, has discussed cooperation in gas and atomic energy sectors with U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, Zelensky's press service said in a statement on Friday.
According to the press service, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the EU-U.S. energy security forum in Brussels on May 2 and involved U.S. Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland, representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy, Zelensky's advisor Ruslan Ryaboshapka, and Ukrainian Ambassador to Belgium and the EU Mykola Tochytsky.
"The role played by the United States in diversified supply of energy resources is important to Ukraine and Europe at large. It mitigates political risks and reduces the cost of energy resources for consumers," Danylyuk said.
The sides discussed investment in enlarging national gas production in Ukraine, ways of supplying U.S. LNG, and reform of the Ukrainian gas market, including Naftogaz of Ukraine.
Another item on the agenda was cooperation in atomic energy, including higher reliability and effectiveness of the existent nuclear reactors, and the development and construction of small-sized modular reactors.
