Distortion of truth about war unacceptable - Putin

MOSCOW. May 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has noted "deliberate distortion of the events of the Great Patriotic War" in a number of countries and emphasized that Russia will honor and support the veterans, regardless of where they live.

"The memory about the Great Patriotic War, about its truth is our conscience and our responsibility. Today we see how in a number of countries, the events of the war are being deliberately distorted, how those who had served the Nazis, abandoning their honor and human dignity, are being idolized, how they shamelessly lie to their children and betray their ancestors," Putin said at the parade dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"Our sacred duty is to protect true heroes, we bow down to all veterans of the generation of victors," the Russian president said. "You live in different countries, but the feat you had performed together cannot be shared. We will always honor all of you and glorify the victory, which has always been and remains one for all," Putin said.
