Patrushev, Jeenbekov condemn history falsification, discuss security issues
BISHKEK. May 14 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev have met in Bishkek to discuss bilateral interaction in the area of security.
"They [Jeenbekov and Patrushev] first congratulated each other on the Victory Day and highlighted the importance of remembering the exploit of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and that history falsification is unacceptable," Yevgeny Anoshin, spokesperson for the Russian Security Council's office, told reporters.
"The sides discussed the issues of Russian-Kyrgyz interaction in the sphere of security, cooperation between defense and security agencies, law enforcement authorities and special services, and also several issues on the international agenda. Nikolai Patrushev expressed support for the initiatives of the Kyrgyz chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization [SCO]," Anoshin said.
Patrushev is to attend the 14th annual meeting of security council secretaries of the SCO member states in Bishkek on Wednesday. It is planned to discuss at the meeting the current situation in the area of security and stability in the SCO space.
A special focus is supposed to be made on the future development of cooperation between SCO members in counteracting terrorism, extremism and separatism, illegal drug and arms trafficking, transnational organized crime and in maintaining international cyber security.
The SCO includes India, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia hold observer status, while Turkey, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia and Nepal are the organization's dialogue partners.
