Fifty countries to partake in antiterrorism conference in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE. May 15 (Interfax) - Representatives of 50 countries and 27 international and regional organizations will take part in the high-level conference entitled "International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking And Organized Crime", which opens in Dushanbe on Thursday, the Tajik Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The conference will be held in the Tajik capital on May 16-17, the statement said.

The forum, organized by the Tajik government, the United Nations, the European Union, and the OSCE, will be attended by "foreign ministers, heads of the agencies tasked with deterring security challenges and threats, and representatives of civil society, the academic community, and the diplomatic corps," it said.

"The conference aims to boost international and regional cooperation, to find effective ways of suppressing sponsorship of terrorism, to exchange practices and knowledge, and to support the professional debate on dealing with the changing methods terrorist organizations use to acquire funding," the statement said.

Over 200 journalists have been accredited to cover the forum, it said.
