Iran situation remains disquieting - Peskov
MOSCOW. May 15 (Interfax) - The situation in Iran remains disquieting and is inclined to escalate, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press on Wednesday.
"For now, we can affirm the ongoing escalation of tensions in this area. We regret the decisions being made by the Iranian side. We realize that the Iranian side does not make such decisions voluntarily or of its own will; instead, it is responding to pressure which contravenes the wording and spirit of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The U.S.' conduct has provoked Iran to act in such a way," Peskov said.
"Unfortunately, general concerns remain," he said.
A journalist had asked Peskov whether Russia was satisfied with the statement made by U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who said that Washington did not want a war with Tehran but would stand up for its interests.
"Regrettably, the situation clearly demonstrates a trend toward further escalation. That's all we can say for now," Peskov said.
