Ukrainian opposition MP Boiko calls for dissolving Rada
KYIV. May 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian parliamentarian Yuriy Boiko, a founder of the Opposition Platform - For Life, has called for the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and early parliamentary elections.
"We hope that the Verkhovna Rada will be dissolved as soon as possible. The people don't need such a parliament. The slap in the face that the current regime took in the election also concerns the Verkhovna Rada. Four percent of confidence in the parliament is a direct way to its dissolution. Our position is that elections should be arranged," Boiko said in commenting on the Rada's decision to schedule President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky's inauguration ceremony for May 20.
The Opposition Platform - For Life voted for holding the inauguration ceremony on May 19, "because the sooner this administration goes, the better," Boiko said. "And this is exactly why the Verkhovna Rada should be dissolved," he said.
After Zelensky takes presidential office, the Opposition Platform - For Life will insist on intensifying the Donbas peace process and addressing social issues, he said.
"Our political force will insist on ending the military conflict as soon as possible - this is what all Ukrainians want. We want the war to be ended and political and diplomatic mechanisms to be engaged for returning territories and people. Social issues should also be resolved. This is our priority," he said.
The next elections to the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada should normally be held at the end of October 2019. They might take place earlier if President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky decides following his inauguration before May 27 that the current parliament should be dissolved.
