Investigation asks court to extend researcher Kudryavtsev's pretrial custody term

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - Moscow's Lefortovsky District Court will consider the investigation's request for extending the pretrial arrest of Viktor Kudryavtsev, an employee of Roscosmos's Central Research Institute of Machine-Building (TsNIIMash), charged with high treason, on Friday.

"The investigation's request for extending Kudryavtsev's pretrial custody has been scheduled for Friday, May 17," Lefortovsky District Court spokesperson Ksenia Pervovlasenko told Interfax.

It had been reported earlier that Kudryavtsev had been transferred from the Lefortovo detention center to Moscow City Hospital No. 20 on May 13, after the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) obliged the Russian authorities to provide him with medical assistance outside the penitentiary system and put him in a civilian hospital for examination and treatment.

Kudryavtsev's lawyer Ivan Pavlov, the chief of the human rights association Team 29, told Interfax that Kudryavtsev's placement in the said hospital "is not quite consistent with the requirements set by the European Court."
