Lavrov, Maas discuss CoE crisis, Nord Stream 2
MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German counterpart Heiko Maas discussed ways to settle the crisis facing the Council of Europe (CoE) in Helsinki on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
"In light of the decisions adopted at the session of the CoE Committee of Ministers in Helsinki, the sides analyzed in detail ways for the Council of Europe to emerge from this crisis," the statement said.
The ministers continued their exchange of opinions on key international and regional issues, including Ukraine, Venezuela, and the launch of Syria's political process, it said.
"They also touched upon certain aspects of the project for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the context of the new gas directive adopted by the European Union," the statement said.
