CSTO FMs urge NATO to build up mutual trust
BISHKEK. May 22 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states have endorsed ten documents, including an address to their NATO counterparts calling for strengthening mutual trust, establishing contacts, and working out mechanisms to prevent military incidents, during a meeting in Bishkek, an Interfax correspondent reported on Wednesday.
"The draft of the open address of the CSTO foreign ministers to the foreign ministers of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization member states to build up mutual trust and boost cooperation is offered to your attention," acting CSTO Secretary General Valery Semerikov said.
"The foreign ministers of the CSTO member states are calling on their counterparts from the NATO states to take joint steps as priority measures in order to establish direct contacts between the two organizations, set up mechanisms of regular consultations between them on topical issues of European regional security, and elaborate mechanisms to avert dangerous military incidents," Semerikov said.
"In this document I express confidence that the interaction between international and regional organizations will facilitate fostering international security and stability," the acting CSTO secretary general said.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
