Kyrgyz economy minister tenders resignation

BISHKEK. May 24 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Economy Minister Oleg Pankratov has tendered his resignation; he is the second member of the national government to step down on Friday.

"Economy Minister Oleg Pankratov has tendered his resignation to the prime minister," a representative of the Kyrgyz government press service told Interfax.

Prime Minister Muhammedkaly Abylgaziev directed Pankratov's statement of resignation to the Kyrgyz president.

The government press service did not say why Pankratov had chosen to resign. The minister had earlier repeatedly been criticized by the parliament and was urged to leave his position.

Pankratov has been serving as the economy minister since 2018. Before that, he was the deputy prime minister supervising economic affairs in 2015-2017.

Agriculture, Food Industry, and Melioration Minister Nurbek Murashev resigned earlier on Friday.
