Russia to keep supporting its strategic ally Cuba - Lavrov
MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - Russia views Cuba as a strategic ally and will continue to support it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We will keep supporting our strategic ally, as we have shared history and commitment to the principles of international law and sovereign equality of states," Lavrov said in his opening remarks at a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla.
Moscow appreciates the frank foreign political dialogue carried out as part of the strategic partnership, Lavrov said.
According to him, Cuba has been actively developing despite years spent under U.S. sanctions.
Russia "sympathizes with the massive transformations" in Cuba, including measures for socioeconomic development and the implementation of the new Constitution, Lavrov said. "We wish our friends the greatest success," he said.
