Taliban want to be relieved of all UN sanctions

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - The Taliban (banned in Russia) hopes that the temporary removal of some of its representatives from the UN terrorist lists will be permanent, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Sohail Shaheen said on Tuesday.

"I think that sanctions must be lifted. When our people are under sanctions they cannot travel. We hope that our negotiators will be removed from the blacklists permanently so they can hold talks and attend such processes," Shaheen told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday.

Earlier, the UN removed eleven Taliban negotiators from its sanctions lists for nine months in order to facilitate negotiations on Afghanistan.
