Spanish ambassador summoned over acting foreign minister's remarks - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Spanish Ambassador to Russia Fernando Valderrama Pareja was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday over remarks by the Spanish acting foreign minister, the ministry said.

"At the meeting he was told of the bewilderment and regret over the unfriendly remarks made by Spain's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation [Josep] Borrel regarding Russia," the ministry said.

"The ambassador was shown the contradiction between the Spanish politician's words which damage the relations between Russia and Spain and the mutual perception of bilateral ties as friendship and mutually beneficial partnership, which is stated in all of the official documents signed between the two countries recently," the ministry said.
