Smoldering fires at Dzerzhinsk defense plant contained
NIZHNY NOVGOROD. June 1 (Interfax) - All smoldering fires at the site of explosion at the GosNII Kristall plant in Dzerzhinsk have been contained, an informed source told Interfax.
"Containment has been declared on all smoldering fires," the source said.
The explosions took place on the grounds of the plant at around midday (Moscow time), causing fire and one of the workshops to collapse. The blasts smashed glass in 185 structures and houses on the grounds and up to three kilometers away from the plant.
The workshop where the explosions occurred was used for making aerial bombs and relevant components and storing ammunition, the source said.
The latest injury toll is 42 people. No one was killed.
