S. Ossetia to close border with Georgia on June 8-11 due to parliamentary election

TSKHINVAL. June 6 (Interfax) - The border between South Ossetia and Georgia will be closed on June 8-11 due to the parliamentary election in South Ossetia, the South Ossetian State Security Committee said in a statement on Thursday.

"Considering stricter security measures to be in effect during the election of the republic's parliament, fast-track admission through checkpoints on the border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia will stop at 6 a.m. on June 8," the agency said.

Checkpoints will resume their normal operation at 6 a.m. local time on June 11, the agency said, adding that other law enforcement entities of the republic had also tightened security.

The parliamentary election will take place in South Ossetia on Sunday, June 9.
