Future of Iran nuclear deal largely depends on Europe - Lavrov

MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - The future of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) largely depends on Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"As for the possibility of preserving the JCPOA, much depends on the Europeans, and I am looking forward to a press briefing at the end of the German foreign minister's trip to Tehran," Lavrov said at the Primakov Readings in Moscow on Tuesday.

"However, some of our partners want Iran to make a mistake and announce steps contradicting the JCPOA, in which case some in the West will breathe a sigh of relief and relieve themselves of any responsibility 'with a clear conscience'," he said.

"That would be highly regrettable. The word 'intractability' is applicable here, too. I very much hope that if anyone is to stay committed to UN Security Council resolutions, it would be law-abiding Europe," Lavrov said.
