CAR needs arms embargo to be lifted, not mitigated - FM to Interfax

MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - The Central African Republic (CAR) needs the arms embargo to be lifted, not just mitigated, CAR Foreign Minister Sylvie Baipo-Temon told Interfax in an interview.

The arms embargo was justified at a certain stage, "but now it is slowing down the implementation of a series of measures," Baipo-Temon said.

"A mitigation of the embargo has been announced, but we are asking for more than a mere migration. We want it to be lifted so we can strengthen our sovereignty and restore our statehood, which will require the existence of an efficient and professional national army," she said.
