Energomash to deliver 3 rocket engines to U.S. customers

MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - NPO Energomash will deliver three RD-180 rocket engines to U.S. customers, Roscosmos said on Wednesday.

"The acceptance commission has duly completed its work with regard to the acceptance by the customers of another batch of RD-180 engines made by NPO Energomash. In June 2019, representatives of Pratt&Whitney, United Launch Alliance, RD Amross signed formulary contracts for three commercial engines," Roscosmos State Corporation said in a statement on its website.

This is the first acceptance so far in 2019.

NPO Energomash produces RD-180 engines for further use in the Atlas family of American launch vehicles made by United Launch Alliance. RD-181 engines are delivered to Orbital ATK, also a U.S.-based firm, which installs them on Antares rockets used to send Cygnus automated cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station.

In 2018, U.S. customers received 11 RD-180 engines.
