Situation in Syria under control, contacts both with U.S. and Turkey established - Putin

OSAKA. June 29 (Interfax) - Situation in Syria remains under control; contacts with both the United States and Turkey have been established, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"We maintain a constant dialogue with our U.S. partners, good contact, as the saying goes, 'on the ground' has been established to coordinate our efforts and actions in countering terrorism," Putin said at a press conference following the G20 summit in Osaka on Saturday.

Certain hotspots of terrorism still exist in Syria, he said.

"I told [U.S] President [Donald Trump] about coordination of these actions. We didn't need to go into some details at the level of presidents. This work at the operative working level is quite successful," Putin said.

Speaking of interaction with Turkey on the situation in Syria, Putin said: "In principle, we work with them daily, much closer than with the U.S. side. We are aware about all the events happening there and try to monitor them together," the Russian president said.

During meetings on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Putin discussed this situation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he said, adding that "it is hardly necessary to provide the details now at a press conference."

"The situation remains under control," Putin said.
