Digital technologies to open new horizons for expanding direct democracy - Putin

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - The development of digital technologies will impact on politics and open new opportunities for wider direct democracy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Digital technologies, artificial intelligence, the era of social media, and big data will doubtlessly have an influence on politics and parliamentary activity, and on the lawmaking practice," Putin said at the Parliamentary Forum in Moscow on Wednesday.

Digital technologies will open new horizons for broader direct democracy and citizens' interactive participation in decision-making in forming a legal base from the national level down to the local one, he said.
