Putin tasks Shoigu with nominating deceased submariners for state awards

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with nominating submariners killed in the submersible incident for state awards.

"Sergei Kuzhugetovich, I am asking you to prepare proposals on the nomination of the submersible's crew for state awards," Putin told Shoigu at a meeting before his departure for Rome. A transcript of the conversation was posted on the Kremlin website.

"Yes, sir," Shoigu said.

Shoigu additionally reported interaction with the deceased submariners' families.

"We are interacting with every family individually. We will follow your orders and fully provide the necessary support as prescribed by our regulations and laws and dictated by our duty to the deceased submariners," he said.

"This includes proper education of their children and proper living standards, as we have done in similar tragic cases before," Shoigu said.

"Those families with minors will receive the salaries of their late husbands until the children come of age," he said.
