Militants in Idlib zone repeatedly violate ceasefire - Russian reconciliation center commander

HMEIMIM, Syria. July 4 (Interfax) - Militants acting in the Idlib de-escalation area in northwestern Syria have fired upon several communities in the Latakia governorate and suburbs of Aleppo, Maj. Gen. Alexei Bakin, the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, said at a news briefing on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, militants have fired upon the communities of Kermel, Ikko, al-Safsafah, Sanjeka, and Sandran in the Latakia governorate and the northwestern suburb of the city of Aleppo," Bakin said.

Refugees are continuing to return to their homes owing to the work of ten checkpoints, including the Jleb checkpoint, Bakin said.

Another 494 people returned from the Rukban refugee camp via a humanitarian corridor running through the Jleb checkpoint on Wednesday, he said.

A total of 15,384 people have returned from Rukban to the territory controlled by the Syrian government since the Jleb checkpoint was opened.
