Russia can play important part in settling regional crises - Italian PM

ROME. July 5 (Interfax) - Moscow can play an important part in settling regional conflicts ranging from Ukraine to Libya, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte wrote on Facebook after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We have discussed plenty of global political affairs in an amicable and fruitful atmosphere. We have agreed on the need for an inclusive and open approach to dialogue for starting settling main regional crises ranging from Libya to Syria and from Ukraine to Venezuela. I am growing convinced that Moscow can play an important role in the settlement of these crises," Conte said.

"Friendship, dialogue, stronger bilateral cooperation, and cultural exchange are the words best describing our meeting," he said.

Italy and Russia "are proud of the remarkable level of their cooperation in culture and science," Conte said.

"Friendship between Italy and Russia has a huge potential, which we should be developing day after day for the sake of the future, security, prosperity, and equality," he said.

Putin paid a one-day visit to Italy on July. He had talks with the Italian prime minister.

Conte visited Moscow in October 2018. In between, Putin and Conte met at the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing in April.
