Next EU-Central Asia ministerial conference to be held in Brussels

NUR-SULTAN. July 7 (Interfax) - The 16th annual European Union - Central Asia ministerial conference will be held in Brussels next year, the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

"The next EU-Central Asia ministerial meeting is expected to be held in Brussels in 2020," the ministry said in a statement released on Sunday.

It was reported during the 15th conference, which is under way in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek these days.

The official presentation of a new EU Strategy on Central Asia was a highlight of this conference, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

Participants also discussed regional security, specifically the further implementation and expansion of the Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA), the Central Asia Drug Action Program (CADAP), which are joint programs with the EU, and enhancing cooperation as part of the Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Center (CARICC).

The final communique was issued at the end of the conference.

"The EU emphasised its commitment to mobilise all its policies and instruments in line with the objectives of the Strategy and to strengthen its role as a partner for the Central Asian countries in their reform process, as a supporter of their integration in the world trading system, and as a supporter of their regional cooperation efforts," it said.
