Duma defense committee head sees no prospect of New START Treaty's extension

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - The New START Treaty will expire in 18 months, but there is no extension prospect for now, State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Vladimir Shamanov said during parliamentary hearings on Thursday.

"Time for demagogy is over. The New START will expire in 18 months, but there is no extension prospect for now,'" Shamanov said.

"We will solemnly bury the INF Treaty on August 2. We are past the point of no-return in that area," he said.
