Pamfilova says ready to meet with independent candidates to Moscow City Duma

MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova will meet with the independent candidates to the Moscow City Duma, the CEC press service said in a statement.

"Russian Central Elections Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova is prepared to hold a meeting with the candidates running in the Moscow City Duma elections who consider themselves independent. The meeting may take place right after July 22, 2019, when Ella Pamfilova gets back to working in the commission," the statement said.

The CEC received an address by Moscow municipal deputies demanding a reaction to the irregularities in the process of some candidates' registration on July 12.

A protest in the form of a mass meeting between independent candidates and voters, which, according to the Interior Ministry, had about 1,000 participants, was held in Moscow on Sunday.

The protesters demanded that the Moscow City Elections Commission register independent candidates and not discard their signatures on technicalities. The rally began in the Novopushkinsky Square and then the protesters walked to the Moscow mayor's office and the Moscow City Elections Commission.

"We will be in the district commission on Monday. We and all independent candidates will go to the CEC at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday to demand a meeting with Ella Pamfilova," Sergei Mitrokhin, a member of the political council of the Yabloko party, said.

On Monday, Mitrokhin confirmed his intention to come to the CEC on July 16 as this is the last day for candidates' registration and verification of signatures.

Moscow City Elections Commission Chairman Valentin Gorbunov will also meet with the candidates on Monday.
