UN sec gen to visit Minsk in early Sept for counter-terror conference
MINSK. July 18 (Interfax) - United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres plans to visit Belarus in early September to attend an international counter-terrorism conference, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
This issue was discussed at Guterres' meeting with Belarusian Permanent Representative to the UN Valentin Rybakov at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
"During the meeting, the sides discussed issues concerning preparations for the international high-level conference 'Combating terrorism through innovative approaches and the use of new and emerging technologies', which is being jointly organized by Belarus and the UN and is due to take place in Minsk on September 3-4, 2019, and also the UN secretary general's participation in it," the ministry said.
"The sides also exchanged opinions on the most important issues in international relations and today's state of cooperation between Belarus and the UN and its prospects," it said.
"Guterres highly assessed Belarus' efforts to help bolster international and regional security," the ministry said.
