Russia to support any agreements between Venezuelan govt, opposition - Lavrov

RIO DE JANEIRO. July 26 (Interfax) - Russia would support any agreements that might be concluded in negotiations between the Venezuelan government and opposition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"The Oslo process is going on. The principal protagonists are taking part in them, and we will support any agreements that they might reach between themselves," Lavrov told journalists in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.

Russia is interested in a peaceful settlement of the situation in Venezuela, he said.

"We reaffirmed our support [at a meeting between the BRICS foreign ministers] for the so-called Oslo process, which was initiated by Norwegian mediators, between representatives of the Nicolas Maduro government and the opposition represented by Juan Guaido," he said.

"These contacts are continuing now in the region, in Barbados. And, judging by the parties' comments, they have some prospects," Lavrov said.
