New York court declining Democrats' suit against Russian govt, Trump HQ on U.S. election was expected - Ryabkov

MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - The decision made by a Manhattan District Court in New York on Tuesday declining the lawsuit filed by the National Committee of the Democratic Party, which accused Donald Trump's election team, WikiLeaks, and the Russian government of plotting and interfering in the 2016 presidential election in the United States, was expected, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

"As to this definite verdict: yes, we have taken note of it. There is nothing surprising in it for us. It's something that should have been expected," Ryabkov told Interfax on Wednesday.

"We respect U.S. court decisions as regards our interests and citizens, but, unfortunately, the U.S. judicial system is not always capable of handing down verdicts objectively and on the basis of the correct analysis of the entire set of circumstances," he said.

"In particular, everything that has happened in high-profile cases, when citizens of the Russian Federation were arrested, detained, and abducted by U.S. law enforcement officials on far-fetched pretexts and later received unthinkably long prison sentences, shows that the U.S. judicial system is biased against Russia," Ryabkov said.
